Monitor Audio Bronze W10 Subwoofer

All the audiophile-like transparency of New Bronze’s low-distortion design regimen concentrated in the bass domain. This is New Bronze bass, deeply provisioned, authentically proportioned and dynamically fleet of foot, re-tooled from the ground up to punctuate the sound of every New Bronze system with stunningly natural bass transients, timed to perfection. The sophisticated W10 subwoofer is a New Bronze original, featuring an exclusive trinity of uprated amplifier topology, powerful DSP processing and new long-throw driver design. Product Questions
What is the difference between active and passive speakers
Active speakers require a power supply which can come from the mains or a battery. Usually an input would come from an Aux chord or wirelessly from bluetooth or streaming. Passive speakers do not need a seperate power supply but would need amplification, usually via a traditional HiFi amp. Passive speakers are usually for HiFi and surround sound. Active speakers are usually for portable products or media speakers such as for a PC.
What does 5.1 and 7.2 mean?
5.1 refers to the configuration of a surround sound speakers with the first number being the amount of speakers and the second number being how many subwoofers. 5 usually means a left, right, centre and two rear speakers. The .1 or .2 simply means one or two subwoofers. 7 would include extra speakers at the rear. You may now also see a third digit in this format which refers to overhead speakers, for example 5.1.4 would indicate 5 speakers around the room, 1 subwoofer & 4 overhead speakers. The total number of speakers you can have in your setup will depend in how many channels of amplification are available in your amplifier.
