Company History
Ortons AudioVisual was started in Hitchin by Keith Orton in 1971 and was a family business for forty years. Ortons grew by reputation and had stores in Stevenage, St Albans and Bedford at one time but retrenched to its Hitchin roots as the internet changed the high street.
Hertford Digital Audio took over the company in May 2012 and immediately moved the Hitchin shop from Bancroft to a larger refurbished showroom in Hermitage Road just around the corner. The company began life online as a specialist Sonos retailer called Sonosshop.com which helped popularise the Sonos brand. However in December 2010 the company moved from clicks to bricks and became a mainstream high end Hi-Fi retailer.
Under the new guise of Ortons AudioVisual the company added HG Rapkin in Northampton to the fold in April 2013 and quickly rebranded their existing store to Ortons. Today the combined business benefits from the pedigree of established stores and experienced staff. This is coupled with a background in internet retail that enables us to offer customers the convenience of the internet with the service and personal contact that can only be achieved with a high street presence
